Never Forget

MatthewShepard-300x330.pngOn Wednesday, October 7, 1998, Matthew Shepard was found tied to a fence on the Wyoming prairie, barely alive, his skull fractured and his brain stem crushed. Comatose, he was taken first to a Laramie hospital, then to a better-equipped one in Fort Collins, Colo., where he died five days later. We may never know what his killers, Aaron McKinney and Russell Henderson, intended to do when they first approached Shepard at Laramie’s Fireside Lounge. We only know that, whatever their intention, they ended up murdering him.

Almost instantly, his death became a flash point in this country’s reckoning with gay people, and the cute, clean-cut 21-year-old became a symbol of the ravages of intolerance. The tragedy sparked vigils around the world and led to federal hate-crimes legislation that bears Shepard’s name, currently pending in Congress. Democratic presidential nominee Barack Obama has promised to sign the bill if elected.

not our fault

it is so unfortunate that regardless where we go and how we act, there will be homophobics who hate us. They do not need a reason to hunt us down and tie us to a pole, spikes or what ever the case may be, we will endure so much like in the past and I do not see the future being any brightor here in the united states. I do know other countries, territores are more relaxed then what we see in the states.

I know when me and my partner goes out we act as if we are not a couple being in cincinnati ohio they look at gay men in a way that would kill us then and there.

I will not hide who I am for anyone. I would like to suggest that no one hide it for it is who we are and I am not ashamed. If I let fear run my life then I should just give up and I refuse to give up.

I would like to see less crime and more marriages among our close community of friends, or should say sisters, brothers.

I wish well to everyone and hope and pray that this kind of behavior will be stopped. Dont be ashamed and dont hide we are who we are and I am proud of us. Devote time to help our kind, lead and show the way.
