Victor/Victoria Set For Aronoff Stage 2/24/99 The Fifth Third Bank Broadway Series will present Grammy Award-winner Toni Tennille in the delightful new Broadway musical, VICTOR/VICTORIA, in a limited two-week engagement at the Aronoff Center March 30 - April 11. VICTOR/VICTORIA is based on Blake Edward's hit 1982 motion picture, which was nominated for seven Academy Awards, winning the Oscar for Best Score. The show opened on Broadway on October 25, 1995 starring Julie Andrews, after great screen success. VICTOR/VICTORIA is the story of Victoria Grant (Tennille), a strikingly beautiful woman who has fallen on hungry times. In order to pay the rent, she is persuaded by her friend Toddy (Jamie Ross) to headline at Paris' finest cabaret, as a man...impersonating a woman! Victoria is enormously successful on stage, but off-stage her love life suffers miserably. That is until she meets the dashing businessman King Marchan (Dennis Cole) and his brassy girlfriend Norma (Dana Lynn Mauro), who both find themselves intrigued by Victoria. As Victoria attempts to keep her true identity hidden, fireworks soon explode when hearts are broken and then mended in the city of love. Known for her rich voice, sensual melodies, powerful stage presence and accessible personality, Toni Tennille is a singer/actress/songwriter of astounding versatility and success. Together with her husband Daryl Dragon (a.k.a the "Captain") she has sold over 23 million records. Tennille's list of kudos and credits include: Grammy Award-winner; performed with the Beach Boys as the one and only "Beach Girl;" fourteen times on the pop charts; rave reviews for over seventy performances with symphony orchestras; guest appearances on thirty-eight national television shows from 1996-1997; and a brand new album of classic jazz standards. Tennille burst onto the pop scene in 1975 with her Grammy-winning mega-hit, "Love Will Keep Us Together." Soon after, she co-starred with Dragon on the ABC-TV series The Captain and Tennille. The Captain & Tennille has been named Billboard Magazine's #1 Pop Duo of all time! VICTOR/VICTORIA is written by Blake Edwards (adapted from his original screenplay), directed by Mark S. Hoebee, and choreographed by Dan Mojica. The musical score is composed by the late Henry Mancini, with lyrics by Leslie Briscusse and additional material by Frank Wildhorn (composer of Broadway's Jekyll & Hyde and The Scarlet Pimpernel). Set design is by Robin Wagner, costume design is by Willa Kim, lighting design is by Diane Ferry Williams, and sound design is by Scott Armstrong. VICTOR/VICTORIA plays the Aronoff Center from March 30 - April 11 with performances Tuesday through Fridays at 8:00 pm, Saturdays at 2:00 pm & 8:00 pm, and Sundays at 2:00 pm & 7:00 pm.
