Drag Races & PrideFest - Sunday, June 4th, 2000
from AVOC

Dear Friends,

On Sunday, June 4, 2000, Plum Street Pipeline, Shooters and the Imperial Sovereign Queen City Court of the Buckeye Empire (The Court) will host the 16th Annual Drag Races and 2nd Annual PrideFest to benefit AIDS Volunteers of Cincinnati (AVOC). The event will be located on Court Street between Plum Street and Race Street. PrideFest begins at 1pm and will include music, food, beverages and booths for vendors. The Drag Races begin at 4pm and are always the highlight of the day! Following the Award Ceremony after the races, there will be a T-dance in Flux located in the Plum St. Pipeline. Shooters will host a show with some of the local "drag" talent.

The Drag Races have consistently been among the largest Pride events held in this city. Last year the Cincinnati Fire Department estimated the attendance at over 2000. An event this size takes cooperation from a variety of sources. At this time we would like to extend to you the opportunity to participate in this very worthwhile event. There are a number of different ways you can be a part of PrideFest and The Drag Races.

You may choose to be a sponsor. Sponsors may make a monetary donation to help underwrite the costs of this event. Levels of sponsorship are as follows:

Platinum - $1000 and above
Gold - $500 - $999
Silver - $250 - $499
Bronze - $100 - $249

Monetary sponsorships received by May 1st will be listed in the brochure to be sent with our mailing and on all brochures distributed the day of the event.

You may want to rent a booth space for the "Gay Mart" tent. Booth rental is only $100.00 and includes a 10 x 10 booth, table and 2 chairs. There are limited booth spaces available. Some of the venders last year included Lunch Box Deli, MCC Church, Spotlight Clothing, Mary Kay Cosmetics and a variety of others. All of the vendors were very pleased with the results; local businesses that participated experienced great exposure for their goods or services they displayed.

The Maisonette currently holds the coveted Golden Pump Award by winning the Drag Races last year. Maybe your organization would like to put together a team to compete. A team consists of four runners that don dress, purse, wig and high heeled shoes and relay race from Pipeline to Shooters and back until all four members have completed their leg of the race! Bring your own "drag'' or take your chances and choose from our "drag bag". The winner of the race has the honor of displaying the trophy for one year and a chance to defend the trophy the following year. Entry fee is $40.00 per team.

An event this size can only be successful by the hard work of many volunteers. There are a wide variety of volunteer opportunities during this event. If you would like to volunteer some of your time, please contact our Volunteer Coordinator, Barbara Levine at 421-2437.

Your help with this event goes a long way in providing assistance to those individuals infected or affected by HIV/AIDS in the Cincinnati and Tri-State areas.

Questions regarding PrideFest 2000 may be directed to Todd Wentz at 42 l-2437 or Terry Patton at 261-4833 or 321-6978.
