TV Pride
2000 Relives Three Marches on Washington
from B.W. Industries
5/20/00
CINCINNATI, May 15, 2000 -- This June, for LesBiTransGay pride
month, B. W. Industries presents "TV Pride 2000" with
memories and perspectives from the past three marches on Washington,
DC. The programming will be cablecast on Time-Warner public access
channels throughout June 2000.
As of this writing, the exact show times for these programs
were not final yet. After May 25, you can go on-line to the B.W.
Industries web site at http://www.iac.net/~mbailey to find out the
details. There will also be listings made available on http://www.gaycincinnati.com
and "TV Pride 2000" flyers placed in the community
center and bars in Cincinnati.
The programs currently scheduled for cablecasts are:
Gay Cable Network - 1987 March on Washington (1987-60min)
Turn the way-back machine to 1987! This extremely well edited
program includes many personal messages from the (then) president
of the United States. It also includes clips from the award winning
film "The Life and Times of Harvey Milk" and a touching
remembrance of Harvey given at the 1987 march by a person who
knew him. The rousing keynote speech by Rev. Jesse Jackson is
also presented.
D.C. Memories (1993-60min)
GCN personality, Jeff Bixby, hosts a discussion with participants
who marched in Washington, D.C. in 1993, 1987 and even the 1st
march in 1979. Their memories are supported by dozens of video
clips from the marches. Jeff and his guests put these marches
and community's larger work for equal rights into a fresh perspective.
T'd Off (1993-60min)
This program is a festive collection of the most outrageous T-shirts
and signs seen at the 1993 march. The "frontal assault"
is set to a music sound track featuring Gay/Lesbian artists exclusively.
The Millenium March on Washington - Now or Never? (2000-120min)
Cincinnati Premier! To march, or not to march. That was
the question facing many LesBiTransGay Americans this April.
The BWI cameras were there to talk to those that chose to make
the trip to this nation's capitol. The coverage of this historic
expression of free speech includes interviews with dozens of
march participants, march organizers and couples who took part
in the commitment (wedding) ceremony the day before. Veteran
TV personality, Jeff Bixby, once again picks up the microphone
and adds depth, perspective and asks the burning question, "Where
are you in the Gay Continuum?"
Republicans Under the Bed (1998-60min)
Forget global warming, the ozone hole and terrorists with atomic
bombs. It is subtitled "A Politically Aware Fantasia for
the Next Generation". This program explores the real
threat to the American way of life in the new millenium. Over
90% of the program consist of cutting-edge 3D computer graphics
and is the winner of seven (7) video competition awards (3 local,
2 regional and 2 national) including the prestigious national
1999 Hometown Video Festival awards for "Innovative"
and "Computer/Video Art".
VCR Alert! Time-Warner public access rules allow for
size (6) cablecasts of each program. However, five (5) of the
cablecasts will be on cable Channel 4 and one (1) on cable Channel
24. Those on Channel 4 can be seen only in the Cincinnati metropolitan
area (~65,000 homes). Programs on Channel 24 can be seen in Cincinnati
and its suburbs (~210,000 homes). Due to the large number of
"weakly" religious programs on Channel 24 (>95),
TV Pride 2000 show times on this popular channel are limited
to early morning time slots.
B.W. Industries (formerly Gay Cable Network's Cincinnati Bureau)
is a local video production group producing high quality and
politically aware programming for public access cable. B.W. Industries
has teamed up with LP Video Productions to bring you this year's
programs.
