What's Happening
with the Center? Everyone's wondering "What's going on with the Community Center?". Well I thought I'd let everyone know where we stand. As most of you know, we have relocated to Northside. Our new address is 4119 Hamilton Ave. We're located across from the new Harlem Cafe and The Fifth Amendment. The new space is considerably smaller than our previous location but we felt the change was necessary to accomplish our goals this year. We need to concentrate on the important things like supporting and building our community and our "family". We also need to focus on awareness and supplying the information necessary to become a successful and accepted community. We are currently seeking board members and volunteers for this year and encourage anyone who is interested and wants to dedicate themselves to building the Community Center to contact us. Currently, we have two board members: Scott Stevens and LeAnn Dessauer. We have been organizing the Center and preparing for our grand opening, which has not yet been scheduled. We are also reviewing our volunteer database to acquire active candidates to "man" or "woman" the front desk, and other duties, so that the Center may resume its operating hours of M-F 6:00p-9:00p and Sat. 12:00p-4:00p. If you or anyone you know are interested in volunteering, please contact Scott or me at the new Center: 591-0200. We are also beginning planning and preparation for Pride '99 and Kings Island. We will be having a Pride meeting on Wednesday, February 24, 7:30p at the new Center. If you are interested in becoming involved in this event, please plan to attend this meeting. Also, there will be a board meeting Thursday, February 25 at 7:30p and anyone seriously interested in becoming a board member should plan to attend this meeting. We have a lot of ideas to make this year the best yet for the Community Center. We would also like to concentrate on joining the community rather than be divided according to gender, political, religious, social or other issues. We are in a constant battle for our right to be free to live our lives without battling amongst ourselves. Please help us to accomplish our goals. Thank you, LeAnn Dessauer |
