Changes Abound in AIDS WALK Cincinnati '99 AIDS Volunteers of Cincinnati (AVOC) has some changes in store for the upcoming AIDS WALK Cincinnati. The biggest news is the addition of a run to the annual walk. "We've had requests from runners for several years" says walk organizer and AVOC Board President Kathy Nardiello. "I'm happy to say that beginning this year, theyll be able to fun for the cause and help us in our fundraising efforts". The other big change is the DAY of the walk. Traditionally held on the last Saturday in September, the Reds winning season and downtown road and stadium construction have pushed the event to Sunday, September 26. Nardiello sees that move as both good and bad. "Of course, anytime you take a successful event and tinker with it, it makes you nervous", says Nardiello, adding "the good news is that for years we've heard complaints from people in certain retail and service businesses who simply could not participate on a Saturday and now we're eager to have them join us for a Sunday AIDS WALK + RUN". AIDS WALK + RUN is again sponsored by a major underwriting from Lazarus/Federated Department Stores. Other substantial donors include Walgreen's, Miller Beer, Time Warner Cable, The I.S.Q.C.C.B.E., IBM Corporation, Mercy Health System, Duro Bag Manufacturing, Comey & Shepherd Realtors/Michael Sweeney, TGI Friday's, Simon Says, Steamex/Eastern, Attorney Scott Knox, WKRC-TV 12, KISS 107.1 FM and CityBeat. This year's schedule has registration/sign-in beginning at 8am, with the run starting at 8:30 and the walk at 9:30am. As always, the event starts and ends at Sawyer Point in downtown Cincinnati. Registration kits may be picked up at any LaRosa's, Starbucks or Ameristop, or by calling AVOC at (513) 421-AIDS. |
