I certainly must thank Pride Co-Chairs Bruce Preston and Lycette Nelson for all their hard work in putting together the most aggressive Pride Month Calendar this city has ever seen! Literally thousands of people have turned out for events in the first half of June, and many events are still ahead as I write. I should also thank all the businesses that purchased ads in the Pride Guide, which was put together with very little lead time by Steve Buescher at BeeGraphix. Without Steve's help, the Pride Guide and the Pride Month presence on the website would not have been possible (Thank you, Steve!). And finally, a very sincere thank you goes out to the many community organizations and businesses that accepted our invitation to produce events to fill the calendar. It has been impressive to see our community, which is often polarized, come together to create a Pride Month featuring events for people of many races, genders, and faiths. Planning for Pride '99 should begin immediately, so start thinking of ways to improve! We have made tremendous progress at the Center since Pride '98, but a tremendous amount of work remains to be done. We are always looking for volunteers, and we could use a couple more dedicated individuals for our Board. Women and people of color are encouraged to be active in the Center to ensure that we are representing the true diversity of our community. If you have never visited the Center, make a point of stopping in to look around this summer. If you are not currently a member, please consider joining. Membership dollars help to keep the Center running between our major events such as Pride Night '98 at Paramount's Kings Island this September. We appreciate your past and continued support! |
