Happy Gay/Lesbian history month 1998! To celebrate, the Cincinnati bureau of the Gay Gable Network once again brings you quality programs with a conscience. This year, programming includes events at the "March on Washington for Lesbian, Gay and Bi Equal Rights" held October 11, 1987 and April 25, 1993. A full schedule of show times and dates is included at the bottom.
From Women's Voices for Therese (1990-60 min)
This March 1990 concert features various recording artists singing
the work of Cincinnati song writer, Therese Edel. The concert
includes the combined voices of MUSE-Cincinnati Women's Choir
and the Atlanta Feminist Women's Chorus. Also performing, Betsy
Lippitt, Sue Fink, Deidre McCalla, Kay Gardner and many other
good friends. Recorded at Kresge Auditorium, this program was
nominated for a 1991 Blue Chip Cable Access Award.
Gay Cable Network - 1987 March (1987-60 min)
Turn the way-back machine to 1987! This extremely well edited
program includes many personal messages from marchers to the
(then) president of the United States. It also includes clips
from the award winning film "The Life and Times of Harvey
Milk" and a touching remembrance of Harvey given at the
1987 march by a person who knew him. The rousing keynote speech
by Jesse Jackson is also presented.
Good Friends - Revisited (1998-60min)
Twice the good times! Good Friends was a music talk show hosted
by songwriter, Therese Edel (see above). Every month, it featured
performances by, and talks with, recording artists in the women's
music community. This TV Pride special program features the 1991
Blue Chip Cable Access Award winning "October" programs
and the also nominated "December" program. Therese's
guests are singer Jane Winslow and violinist?.
Republicans Under the Bed (1998-60 min)
Cincinnati Premier! Forget global warming, the ozone hole and
terrorists with atomic bombs. This program explores the real
threat to the American way of life in Y2K.
T'd Off (1993-60 min)
This program is a festive collection of the most outrageous T-shirts
and signs seen at the 1993 march. The "frontal assault"
is set to a music sound track featuring Gay/Lesbian artists exclusively.
Unvarnished Truth (1998-60 min)
Cincinnati Premier! Have you ever had the itch to tell the self-righteous
radical right what you really think about them and did not care
what they thought about it? This program scratches that itch.
Constructed almost entirely of cutting edge computer graphics,
this program is a politically aware fantasia for the Gay 90's.
Venting Spleen (1990-60 min)
Waves of time have washed homophobic drift wood upon the shores
of the mind. This program attempts to clean those beaches. Constructed
of 100% computer graphics, Venting Spleen won four Blue Chip
Cable Access Awards in 1990.
D.C. Memoirs (1993-60 min)
GCN Personality, Jeff Bixby, hosts a discussion with participants
who marched in Washington, D.C. in 1993, 1998 and even the 1st
mark in 1979. Their memories are supported by dozens of video
clips from the marches. Jeff and his guests put these marches
and the community's larger work for equal rights into a fresh
perspective.
Gay/Lesbian/Bi programming can be seen almost every day during October on Time Warner Cable in Cincinnati. All programs are cablecast on either Channel 4 or 24. Programs on Channel 24 can be seen in Cincinnati and its suburbs. Those on Channel 4 can be seen only in the metropolitan area.
